Modes

Shadow, deliver or hold, and what each costs your players.

One line in config.yml decides what happens to a flagged message. You can switch at any time with /jevguard reload.

config.ymlYAML
mode: shadow # shadow, deliver or hold

shadow (default)

Verdicts are only written to the server log. Nothing is hidden, nobody is warned, no commands run, and staff get no chat alerts. Start here and tune it.

deliver

Messages appear at once. When the verdict arrives, about half a second later, the actions run: warnings, staff alerts, kicks and commands. A bad message is briefly visible, and cancel has no effect.

hold

Each message waits for its verdict before anyone sees it. A flagged message with the cancel action never reaches chat.

  • Players feel a short delay: usually about 200 ms, at most hold.timeout-ms (1.5 seconds).
  • If the verdict takes longer, on-error decides: allow (the default) lets the message through, block hides it and tells the player moderation is unavailable.
  • A verdict that arrives after the timeout still runs the other actions, like staff alerts and commands.

On Paper the wait happens on the async chat thread. On Hytale the verdict is chained into the chat event, so no thread waits at all.
